Between you and me, I’ve always felt that business marketing and advertising support could use some improvement. Having spent nearly 15 years as an entrepreneur, I’ve been on the other side of the fence—starting businesses, making acquisitions, and investing. The goal was always to extract as much value as possible from every opportunity. While my background lies in marketing and advertising, time constraints often forced my team and me to outsource these functions while we focused on business planning and nurturing our customer base.

Then came COVID. As the pandemic reshaped the business landscape, I found myself revisiting my advertising roots. I wanted to understand what business owners and managers truly desired from their marketing and advertising support. Surprisingly, the answer was universal: “Make more money.”

Now, that might seem obvious at first glance, but it revealed a deeper truth. Many business owners lacked a clear roadmap from where they were to where they wanted to be. Some hadn’t fully grasped the primary drivers of results for their businesses. Instead, they poured resources into familiar advertising channels, hoping that more investment would yield better returns.

Imagine a ship captain embarking on a long voyage from point A to point B. No map, no crew, no inventory—just a vague idea of the destination. Many business owners I’ve spoken to are excellent rowers, skilled course charters, and efficient inventory managers. Yet, without solid planning and infrastructure, even the best rowers end up with sore arms, going in circles.
